Tag | Confessions of a Blogger

10 Jan 2014

For today's post I've had a good bout of writers block. I literally had no ideas at all, which is strange as I'm usually brimming with them! So I decided today I'd do the Confessions of a Beauty Blogger tag. I've seen this tag on quite a few blogs and I always enjoy reading the answers so I hoped you would too!

When did you start your blog?
My first post is dated October 26th 2012, which means I've now been blogging for almost a year and 3 months! I can't believe how quickly the time has gone, it feels like I've always been a blogger now!

Have you had any past online presence before (Other blog, YouTube)?
I did write a sort of travel blog before this over the summer of 2011, when I moved to America to work in a theme park for 4 months. I wasn't exactly a consistent blogger, but it was more of a way for me to document my experience and for my friends and family to see what I was getting up to. I'm so glad I did write it though, as its really nice to look back on and relive it. You can have a look at it here, if you're interested. :)

Why did you start a blog?
To be honest it was a really spontaneous decision, which strangely seems to be most bloggers answer! I wasn't even aware of the blogging world until the summer of 2012 when I worked as a receptionist on my University campus. Some days the job was ridiculously busy and others I'd have a 12 hour shift bored out my mind, so I spent a lot of time on the internet. One very bored day I stumbled upon Zoella's YouTube channel, then found her blog and through that the whole beauty blogging world. That's where my obsession began. At the beginning of October I moved home for good, and decided to set up my blog as a hobby to keep me occupied now that I was living away from all my Uni friends and my boyfriend. And the rest they say is history.

When did you become serious about starting a blog?
As I created my blog quite spontaneously, I never really thought that seriously about it. I enjoyed reading other blogs and thought it looked like a lot of fun, but I did just mainly start it as something to occupy my evenings. It was only after quite a few months that I started seriously trying to improve my blog and my ability as a blogger.

What was your first post?
So I just re-read my first blog post, and god its so cringe worthy. I literally just wrote a bit about me, and what I was going to blog about. I had no idea what I was doing, or if anyone was even going to read it! At least I can tell that my writing skill has definitely improved along the way (I hope!). To preserve my dignity I'm not going to link to it, but feel free to find it if you want a chuckle!

What has been your biggest challenge about blogging?
This is a tricky one, as I really love updating my blog - more than I thought I would when I begun it! I guess the only real challenge (aside from writers block!) is being organised enough to update regularly. I have no idea how some bloggers can post every day, I'm sure they must have Bernards Watch or something! I've definitely gotten a lot better at posting in recent months though and I'm really happy with my posting schedule now.

Where do you see your blog in one year?
I'd obviously love to expand my readership and continue improving my layout, content - everything really. But, cheesily I just hope I'm still having fun with it! My blog is one of my favourite hobbies and its become a big part of my life now!

What is the most rewarding thing to you about blogging?
This definitely has to be getting to know all the lovely people in the blogging community. The #bbloggers hashtag on twitter is full of lovely people that are always willing to help you out. It's just such a lovely and friendly community to be a part of. Every comment on my blog also always brightens my day. Its such a nice feeling knowing that someone enjoyed your post, and it spurs me on to want to make more and better content.

What is the most discouraging thing that happens to you?
This is a tricky one, as there isn't really anything that I dislike about blogging! I guess the only thing is the focus that's placed on a bloggers follower count. I'm guilty of it myself, and there has been times where I've obsessed over how many followers I have compared to other blogs. But, at the end of the day we're all blogging for fun and as long as you're enjoying it doesn't really matter how many followers you have!

What's your lasting inspiration or motivation?
Without a doubt this has to be other bloggers. I'm always inspired when I read fellow blogger's posts, or after a BBloggers chat on twitter. It's lovely to be in a community full of creative people that have all created a hobby out of their interests. It's not always the 'bigger' bloggers that I'm inspired by either, its usually the 'smaller' blogs where you can really sense their enthusiasm and passion.

I hope you enjoyed reading my answers! Answering these questions has really made me feel so happy that I decided to create my blog! :) Let me know if you do this tag too, I'd love to read your answers!

  1. This is really cool. Like you I am also inspired more by smaller blogs I think. As a beginner I am also finding it difficult to be organised and post regularly !

  2. These are really cool answers! ^_^ I used to be obsessed with my follower count and my daily visitors when I first started my blog. But I soon realized that that's really not why I started blogging, nor is that the most important thing. ^_^
