October Favourites.

1 Nov 2013

So its October Favourites time and there's quite a few products I've been loving! Including a cheeky candle purchase too!

Recently I've been really getting into my Stila In The Light Palette. I've actually had the palette for ages, but I always seem to forget I have it and find it lurking at the back of my make-up drawer. This month however, I've had it on the go almost everyday and been totally loving it! The 10 shadows are beautiful and super pigmented. They also blend really easily which is great for me as I'm still a bit of an eye shadow novice! My only issues with the palette is that there isn't enough matte shades for my liking and it doesn't close securely which makes travelling a slight issue. But a spare hair band solves that issue. :)

If you read my recent review (here) you'll know that I've been obsessed with Benefit's High Beam ever since I bought it. The lovely pinky-champagney colour works so well to brighten my face up for Autumn. Using it underneath my brow bone also gives a lovely definition to my brows as well. I won't harp on too much as my review says it all, but basically I LOVE it!

Now its Autumn and the run up to Christmas has officially hit, you've got to have a staple red lipstick on the go. My current go-to is Topshop's Rio Rio. Its creamy, moisturising and has great colour pay off. With a lip liner to prime the lips it has great staying power and a lovely matte finish. At £8 I think its really great value too!

As seen in my previous post this week, I am in love with the miracle hair worker that is TIGI's Wonderful Tonight. Want an overnight treatment that leaves you with that 'just left the hairdressers' feeling? Then you need this bottle in your life! It makes my hair feel so soft and shiny and it smells super yummy too!

Bronzer is something I've never really used. I always seem to struggle finding the perfect shade for me, but the Bourjois Délice de Soleil Bronzing Powder has found a permanent place in my make-up bag. I have it in the shade fair/medium. The powder is really finely milled, giving a really natural finish on the skin. I really love the packaging too, with a massive mirror which is great when I'm travelling!

Lastly, a somewhat different addition to normal! On a recent trip to Waitrose, I found this Fig and Plum candle on offer and couldn't resist it. It smells amazing and has really gotten me into an autumnal mood. Fig seems to be a favourite scent of mine at the moment, so you might see a few more candles popping up here and there!

So there's my favourites for this month! What've you been loving? :)

Review | Fix and Perfect Pro Primer 002

19 Mar 2013

When I'm looking for a primer, I'm looking for a product that can transform my skin into a smooth base to spread my foundation over. I've always had a few niggling skin problems and without a primer my foundation just doesn't like to sit right. The Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro Primer 002 is one such product.

It pretty much does what it says on the tin; Smoothes, Resurfaces, Brightens, Mattifies and Protects. My last primer, the Stila One Step Illuminate (review HERE) was quite a moussy (is that a word?!) texture but this is completely different. It feels like a serum when you first squeeze it out, and after a few applications I've really come to prefer the feel of it. It feels quite thick when you first apply it, but it sinks into the skin really well.

A small splodge (technical term there) of the primer really is enough for your whole face, it spreads really well and leaves your skin feeling really smooth and supple. It ensures that my foundation glides on and most importantly stays put all day. There's nothing worse than catching a glimpse of yourself on the journey home from work and seeing that your foundation has had a mind of its own all day. This primer straps it down to stay for the long haul.

The only downside I can see to the product is just a personal preference as I prefer face products to have a pump dispenser. I hate the fact that with a bottle such as this, you never really use the entire product up. But, aside from that, so far so good and I see no flaws at all! I've been using it every day for at least a month and the bottles shows no sign of running out any time soon. Which at £6.99 I'd say is pretty damn good.

What do you think? Have you tried this primer? Let me know :)

December Favourites.

31 Dec 2012

This month I've been loving quite varied products; a few recent splurges, a Christmas gift and a Glossy Box find.

First up, my Stila One Step Illuminate which I actually wrote a full review on a few posts back here. This product was bought on such a whim, I surprised myself by how much I liked it! There's not many days where I don't use this primer now as I just love the healthy glow it leaves me with. Considering I've had this for just over a month now, I also think it lasts really well!

A beauty staple I think, but this is actually my first purchase of the Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover. I'm not sure how I would cope without this now, its just so simple and quick to use! Definitely a firm favourite for months to come I think. :)

My first Essie nail polish, and definitely a favourite for this wintery month! The shimmery bluey/greeny colour (Dive Bar) is so suited for the cold weather we've been having, and the quality of the polish is really apparent. I wrote a full review on this polish earlier this month which you can read here.

This Ayuuri Indian Rose Face Cream actually featured in my November Glossybox post and I have to say I wasn't massively excited by it. However, after persevering with it I have quite enjoyed using it. I'm still not keen on the smell of Rose, but the cream does leave my face feeling really soft and smooth. Which in the winter months can sometimes be tricky to accomplish! So thanks Glossy Box for ensuring I find this brand! :)

I feel like this product needs little explanation. The MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle actually made its way into my home a few months ago, but this month I've had quite a few compliments on my dewy/shimmery cheekbones that it's renewed my love for the product! I just love this and I'm sure most of you reading will agree :) I wrote a little piece about this splurge here.

The Topshop Lip Marker in Hot Shot is actually intended as a kind of lip stain. However, I wear mine as more of a lip liner/base coat for lipstick. It seriously improves the wear time, and creates a really nice base for my lipstick to sit on top of. As it is a lip stain, you can wear it alone and although I've heard good reviews  on this, I haven't tried it myself so couldn't really comment. The actual nib of the product has the texture of a felt tip pen and is therefore super easy to control and makes application a smooth process. Definitely a winter favourite when a statement red lip looks so festive.

Lastly, a very recent addition to my monthly favourites! If you've read my previous post (here) you'll know that this Max Factor Colour X-Pert Waterproof Eyeliner in Metallic Anthracite was a Christmas present from my sister. Therefore meaning that I've had the product for less than a week of this month! However, I really do love it that much that it deserves a place in my favourites. I've worn it everyday since opening it and its pretty much a perfect product in my eyes! I think I will be purchasing different colours in the near future to test them out too.

So there you have it, my December favourites! Are any of these products a favourite of yours too? Let me know :)

FOTD | A Statement Lip.

9 Dec 2012

Hey guys,

So even as I type this I'm still kinda unsure whether or not to post it! I really enjoy reading Face Of The Day posts, as I am quite a nosy parker! Butt, I'm not really sure how interesting my face will be as I'm not particularly extravagant in my everyday make-up look! But hey ho, here it is, and I hope at least one of you finds it interesting! :)

Firstly I would like to point out; I'm not actually a vampire, contrary to how the latter picture would like to portray me! But I seriously struggle with taking pictures of myself and this was the best of the lot, so despite the vampiric tendencies I went with it! :)

I use the Stila One Step Illuminate  as a primer, then the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation in Ivory (which is a definite favourite!), the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Light 2, the Benefit Erase Paste in No.2 and the powder from the Sleek Base Duo Kit in Shell.

Today on my eyes I simply used my favourite Topshop Liquid Eyeliner in Rook, but after just having a search they don't seem to sell it anymore! :O! SO sad!! But they do sell a similar style instead which you can see here.

To finish I highlighted with the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle, added blush with the MAC Powder Blush in Well Dressed and on my lips I wore the Yves Rocher Moisturising Cream Lipstick in Framboise 101. I couldn't find that exact shade on the Yves Rocher website, or anywhere to be honest! But there are similar on there :)

So thats my face! haha Let me know if you liked the post! :)

Review | Stila One Step Illuminate

28 Nov 2012

I bought the Stila One Step Illuminate on a bit of a whim a few weeks ago when I was purchasing the Stila In The Light Palette. It promised that I could swirl my way to a luminous, glowing complexion in one step! I've never had a majorly bad complexion, but I'm always up to try things that promise a glowing face! And, just look at the pretty swirling pattern! Its so pretty.

Its described as being a tripled-swirled serum, with; Pale Pink - to warm the complexion, Champagne - to highlight the skin and Kitten - to brighten and illuminate. I do agree that it is 'serum' like, but its also really light, almost a mousse-like feel I think! Its really refreshing on the skin as its quite cooling, and it sinks in really quickly. I find that my foundation goes on much smoother after using the primer, and seems to sit better on my skin.

It also claims to reduce imperfections, improve skin texture, minimise pores, diminish wrinkles, hydrates+balances+nourishes the skin and controls oil production. Quite a hefty wish list, eh? I do think that my skin looks a lot better once I've applied the primer, but I wouldn't say its a hugely dramatic difference. It looks smoother and brighter, but its real effects seem to come out best when foundation is applied aswell. Then my skin seems to really glow. There is small almost 'glittery' parts to the formula, which can look a little over-bearing when first applied. But once smoothed out, and again once foundation is set on top you don't look like you have a disco-ball face, just a healthy glow. :)

The fact that the product has a pump dispenser is a really welcome addition, as you only need one pump for your entire face. The pump makes it really simple to dispense and you don't get messy hands! Always a plus! :)

For me, the primer has settled in nicely in my morning routine and I can't imagine not using it now! Addict much?! :) It retails at £24, which is quite pricey for a primer but I'm a sucker for pretty packaging and this one drew me right in.

Has anyone else tried the Stila Illuminate? What primers do you use? :)

Bye for now!

Spending Splurge, Oops!

20 Nov 2012

L-R: 1. Stila One Step Illuminate 2. Stila 'In The Light' Eyeshadow Palette 3. Charles Worthington Intense Rescue Melting Balm 4. Sleek Base Duo Kit in 334 'Shell' 5. Essie Nail Polish in 'Dive Bar' 6. Revlon Photoready 3D Volume Mascara in 001 'Blackest Black' 7. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in No.2 'Light'
On my way home yesterday I was a bad person, and succumbed to the exciting prospect of a window shop in Boots. This then turned into a spending spree in Boots, closely followed by a jaunt around Superdrug. Needless to say my bag was noticeably heavier on leaving and my bank account wasn't on best terms with me. But when faced with 3 for 2 deals whats a girl to do? :)

I originally went in purely for the Stila In The Light Eyeshadow Palette! After seeing so many great reviews on it, I really wanted it in my life :) And, the colours are even prettier close-up! So, that was immediately in my hands! Then, whilst still at the Stila counter I noticed the One Step Illuminate. To be honest the main reason I wanted it was because of how pretty the product actually looks with the swirly pattern! I'm a marketing dream! haha But, it did also sound really interesting as an extra step to my foundation routine, and on using it this morning I was really happy with it :) I then picked up an Essie nail polish in 'Dive Bar'. Essie is a brand I'd been wanting to try for a while (I've never been that adventurous with my nail polish brands before!) and the blacky-bluey-shimmer that Dive Bar possesses instantly drew me to it! And before I knew it I was walking away with it in my hands. My final Boots purchase was the Charles Worthington Intense Rescue Melting Balm which after Fleur De Force reviewed here I knew I had to have! It was 1/3 off in Boots, so I didn't feel too bad! :)

I then went to Superdrug purely for the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer which has been hyped to within an inch of its life! Butt, as it was 3 for 2, I couldn't help but pick up the Revlon Photoready 3D Volume Mascara aswell, and to be fair I did really need a new mascara ;) And, to complete the 3 for 2 I bought the Sleek Base Duo Kit as the packaging was beyond cute! And I've been looking for a new foundation to try out, so the combination of cream and powder foundation in a cute compact was too hard to resist! :)

I'm really excited to try everything out! Let me know if you've already got any of these products! :)

Bye for now!
