Spending Splurge, oops! Vol #2

10 May 2013

So I might have had a little splurge recently, and as I'm a nosy person and enjoy seeing other peoples purchases I thought you might like to see what I picked up. :)

First up I went to Boots straight after getting my hair cut where the hairdresser had curled my hair using a small bristle brush. I already have a large barrel brush, but I wanted to try and recreate the curls she'd given me so I bought the Kent Small Radial Brush. So far I'm still struggling to perfect my hair, but its definitely not in detriment to the brush, rather my awful styling skills!

I then picked up a few Revlon items, they had a 3 for 2 deal so it was a bit of a bargain! The PhotoReady Perfecting Primer is something I've been wanting to try for a while, and so far I'm really enjoying it. I'm sure I'll post a review soon! Also in the PhotoReady range was the Cream Blush in Coral Reef, I already have this blush in Pinched and really love using it so I thought I'd try out this shade as well. It looks so scary in the pan, but actually blends out to be a really lovely colour. Lastly, I picked one of the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains in Rendezvous. I love my Clinique Chubby Stick (review HERE) but I wanted to try a cheaper option of the stains. So far, I haven't had a real chance to road-test it but the colour is lovely and really pretty for spring.

A new purchase for me was the La Roche-Posay Micellar Make-Up Removal Gel as I'd never tried anything from this brand before, and I'd never tried a gel formula to remove my make-up. I have to say, so far I'm really not enjoying using it. It seems to be such hard work to get all my eye make-up off, and leaves my skin feeling strange and dry. I'm going to keep trying it but it's definitely not love at the moment!

Finally, I popped into Lush to finallyyyy buy one of their infamous Lip Scrubs. One of my best friends Emily recommended these to me ages ago, and after seeing all the blogosphere hype I knew I had to get in on it. Its just taken me so long to actually get around to buying it! Anyway, long story aside I bought the Mint Julips flavour and not only does it make my lips super smooth, it tastes so damn good! Mint Chocolate on the lips? What could be better! I also bought a Big Blue Bathbomb as I was really fancying a relaxing bath that night and I wanted to feel like I was in the ocean - as you do. :)

So there we have it - my recent purchases! See anything you've tried? Let me know if they're any good :)

Review | Fix and Perfect Pro Primer 002

19 Mar 2013

When I'm looking for a primer, I'm looking for a product that can transform my skin into a smooth base to spread my foundation over. I've always had a few niggling skin problems and without a primer my foundation just doesn't like to sit right. The Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro Primer 002 is one such product.

It pretty much does what it says on the tin; Smoothes, Resurfaces, Brightens, Mattifies and Protects. My last primer, the Stila One Step Illuminate (review HERE) was quite a moussy (is that a word?!) texture but this is completely different. It feels like a serum when you first squeeze it out, and after a few applications I've really come to prefer the feel of it. It feels quite thick when you first apply it, but it sinks into the skin really well.

A small splodge (technical term there) of the primer really is enough for your whole face, it spreads really well and leaves your skin feeling really smooth and supple. It ensures that my foundation glides on and most importantly stays put all day. There's nothing worse than catching a glimpse of yourself on the journey home from work and seeing that your foundation has had a mind of its own all day. This primer straps it down to stay for the long haul.

The only downside I can see to the product is just a personal preference as I prefer face products to have a pump dispenser. I hate the fact that with a bottle such as this, you never really use the entire product up. But, aside from that, so far so good and I see no flaws at all! I've been using it every day for at least a month and the bottles shows no sign of running out any time soon. Which at £6.99 I'd say is pretty damn good.

What do you think? Have you tried this primer? Let me know :)

Review | Stila One Step Illuminate

28 Nov 2012

I bought the Stila One Step Illuminate on a bit of a whim a few weeks ago when I was purchasing the Stila In The Light Palette. It promised that I could swirl my way to a luminous, glowing complexion in one step! I've never had a majorly bad complexion, but I'm always up to try things that promise a glowing face! And, just look at the pretty swirling pattern! Its so pretty.

Its described as being a tripled-swirled serum, with; Pale Pink - to warm the complexion, Champagne - to highlight the skin and Kitten - to brighten and illuminate. I do agree that it is 'serum' like, but its also really light, almost a mousse-like feel I think! Its really refreshing on the skin as its quite cooling, and it sinks in really quickly. I find that my foundation goes on much smoother after using the primer, and seems to sit better on my skin.

It also claims to reduce imperfections, improve skin texture, minimise pores, diminish wrinkles, hydrates+balances+nourishes the skin and controls oil production. Quite a hefty wish list, eh? I do think that my skin looks a lot better once I've applied the primer, but I wouldn't say its a hugely dramatic difference. It looks smoother and brighter, but its real effects seem to come out best when foundation is applied aswell. Then my skin seems to really glow. There is small almost 'glittery' parts to the formula, which can look a little over-bearing when first applied. But once smoothed out, and again once foundation is set on top you don't look like you have a disco-ball face, just a healthy glow. :)

The fact that the product has a pump dispenser is a really welcome addition, as you only need one pump for your entire face. The pump makes it really simple to dispense and you don't get messy hands! Always a plus! :)

For me, the primer has settled in nicely in my morning routine and I can't imagine not using it now! Addict much?! :) It retails at £24, which is quite pricey for a primer but I'm a sucker for pretty packaging and this one drew me right in.

Has anyone else tried the Stila Illuminate? What primers do you use? :)

Bye for now!
