Spotlight On: Rimmel

8 Apr 2014

Back in February I started a little series where I put the spotlight on a particular brand. Its now April, and this is my second installment - oops! Lot's of other posts got in the way, but it's back now with the spotlight placed firmly on Rimmel. When I was deciding which three Rimmel products were my favourite I was surprised to realise that I didn't have a signal eyeshadow, blush or bronzer from the brand! Apparently, I favour their base and lip products, as can be seen above!

My first favourite is one that I've repurchased time and time again; the Stay Matte Powder in Translucent.

It keeps my makeup in check all day, literally and keeps me looking shine free! I do always fear looking shiny, so I love using this across my T-Zone to make sure everything stays in check. Its a really lightweight powder and doesn't give you a cakey look at all. It's definitely been a permanent fixture in my make-up bag for a longggg time now and I can't see it leaving anytime soon either!

The Wake Me Up Concealer in True Ivory has also been a firm favourite of mine for quite a while now. I'm pretty sure I'm on my third or fourth tube of the stuff now, and I won't be stopping any time soon! I find it so easy to apply, its really creamy and blends out really well. Its really high coverage and stays in place for a good 8 hours or more!

Finally, a lipstick! More specifically the Moisture Renew lipstick in In Love With Ginger. As the name would suggest this lipstick is packed full of moisture ensuring dry patchy lips are not an issue! The lipstick glides on really well and sits super comfortably on the lips. The shade is a really lovely orangey-red, perfect for Spring/Summer in my eyes and it'll look even better with a tan! It lasts for a good few hours, and leaves a nice stain on the lips.

So that's my top three Rimmel picks! What're your favourite Rimmel products?

Review: Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in 16

12 Nov 2013

About a month ago when visiting my friend Charlotte in Hull I made a cheeky lipstick purchase in Boots! Rimmel really are producing great lip products at the moment and the Kate Moss collection has some amazing lipsticks. I'd never really heard anything about number 16 (I so wish they had real names!) in the collection but I was on the hunt for an everyday shade so I picked it up to swatch anyway and totally fell in love. It is more pink than I originally wanted as I was looking for more of a nude shade but I think it is still really flattering for everyday wear.

The formulation is lovely and creamy, and is kind of 'mediumly' pigmented if that makes any sense? One swipe will do you fine, but its definitely build-able to create a more intense colour. I find rubbing my lips together after applications gives a really nice smooth finish to the lipstick too.

Lasting power is pretty good, at least 3-4 hours or so. Although the lipstick does sometimes have a tendency to collect at the corners of your mouth, so its best to take it off completely and re-apply rather than just top up.

Generally I do really enjoy wearing this! The shade is really flattering and great if you like a more subtle shade in the evening. The packaging is also really lovely and at £5.49 its a pretty bargain!

Have you tried any other Kate Moss lipsticks? (Aside from 107 obviously...;)!)

A Volt of MAC

6 Sept 2013

Back in July I made another sneaky MAC purchase and bought the gorgeous Vegas Volt. I haven't gotten around to actually writing the post until now though!

When I first saw this shade it was amongst an 'orange' collection in the Carnaby Street MAC. I always admire people who can pull off quite a strong orange lip as it can look so amazing and such a twist on the usual statement red. Now I know Vegas Volt isn't actually the brightest of oranges, (being slightly more on the coral side) but its definitely a shade I wouldn't have usually picked so I'm glad I took the leap :)

Vegas Volt is part of the Amplified Creme formula which is so moisturising and creamy on my lips. Its also super pigmented so you only really need one coat to get full coverage. You can always blot your lips a little if you want to pare it down as well.

Its such a great bright colour for summer, but I think it'll definitely still work in the colder months to give a pop of colour to your outfit. :) It seems to be quite long lasting, going at least 2-3 hours before I need to re-apply which isn't bad at all!

Also! Apologies for my slightly moody face in the picture above, if I remember correctly I think I was having one of those days where no photo looked right and I was getting majorly fed up with myself! haha

Let me know what your favourite MAC lipsticks are, cos I'm always on the lookout for more (despite my bank balance screaming no!). :)

By the time you read this I will be on the Isle of Wight at Besitval! SO excitedd! I'll be back on Monday though with a new post soon after telling of my festival weekend :)

My Top 3 Summer Lip Products

21 Jul 2013

Now that Summer is in full swing I thought I'd share with you my 3 favourite lip products for summer. I've really gotten into my lipsticks/butters/balm stains at the moment and am loving wearing them! Sometimes they're all you need to complete an outfit and make you feel dressed up :)

First up is a new favourite: the MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Crosswires. I won't harp on about it too much, as I've just written a full review on it (here) but I love the pink toned coral shade. Its perfect for a summers day and would look great with a tan! Its also so moisturising which is great on a hot day, when you don't want your lips to dry out. It also lasts pretty well when drinking a lot - which on a summers day is essential!

Secondly is the Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti. I reviewed this back in April (here) and I'm still loving it now. Its perfect when you just want a touch of subtle colour to complete your look, and being so moisturising is great for everyday wear. Again this is quite a corally pink (have you noticed a pattern?) shade, but it definitely leads more to the orange side of coral than Crosswires does. I love that the texture of the Lip Butters means that it fades evenly on your lips throughout the day, making it easy to top-up and doesn't leave your lips looking dry.

Lastly, is the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous. Revlon have been bringing out some really great lip products recently! I love love love balm stains, I love how easy they are to apply and how well they stay on the lips. If I was rich I'd buy all the Clinique Chubby Sticks - but as I don't, the Revlon dupes will keep me going for now. Once again, this is a really pretty coral shade - I think I may have an obsession! Definitely the most orange out of the three I'd say and the most moisturising on the lips. I love this for everyday wear.

Let me know what your favourite summer lip products are as I'm always interested in finding new products to love :)

A MAC first!

17 Jul 2013

So as the title would suggest - I popped my MAC Lipstick cherry!! It was a momentous occasion and I'm SO happy to say I now finally have a MAC lipstick in my possession. Go me! Woo!

However....the day I decided to photograph the beautiful lipstick was an extremely sad day too. I hadn't used it at all yet because I wanted it to look pristine in the photos! All was going so well, as you can see from the photo above! Until.......dun dun duunn. I picked it up to swatch it on my hand and disaster struck!! It somehow fell out my hands hit my chest of drawers on the way down and landed on my carpet. :'(!! I now have a very small pink stain on my cream carpet and a wounded lipstick! It was covered in carpet fluff, and the lovely sharp angled point was no more and is instead a stubby end. It was an actual disaster moment and I had no one to share my pain with! :(

I couldn't focus very well on the lipstick - but my eyes are shining with swallowed back tears I tell you!!

Anyway, aside from the obvious trauma I experienced I actually wanted to tell you about how much I loveeee this lipstick! I have the MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Crosswires. My interest in the shade actually came about through watching EssieButton's video on her Top Five MAC Lipsticks. She was wearing Crosswires in the video and I maybe fell in love! So essentially its all her fault ;)

So being a Cremesheen formula its really nicely moisturising and it doesn't feel heavy on the lips at all. It does offer quite a bit of pigmentation though, although I'd definitely say its build-able if you wanted a sheerer look.

Its a really pretty pinky-coral shade and is great for spring/summer I think! It can definitely take you through from day to night as its not so out there that it can't be used in the day but it can definitely amp up an outfit for the evening.

As far as longevity goes, for me its worked really well. Even when the colours faded after a few hours, it doesn't cake around the edges of my lips at all. It just slowly fades and as the lipstick stains your lips from the pigmentation it looks really natural.

I'm basically a little bit in love with this colour at the moment :) Have you tried Crosswires? Or got any suggestions for a MAC lipstick to try next? :)

Review | Topshop Lip Bullet in There She Goes

22 May 2013

I'm a big fan of this style of lip product, like the Clinique Chubby Sticks and Revlon Balm Stains I find them so easy to use and love how comfortable they are on the lips. So when I was in Topshop a few weeks back it was inevitable that one of their Lip Bullets would be coming home with me. I chose There She Goes as I wanted something a bit more neutral so I could wear it in the day. Especially with the summer weather finally approaching I thought it'd be a really lovely shade to wear.

I haven't used it a massive amount yet, but I still wanted to share this post with you as for the quality of the product I think its really worth the money. Being from Topshop it's in a pretty good price range of £8, and comes wrapped in their signature pretty packaging.

With the twist up applicator its super easy to apply and is really travel friendly for your handbag. I wouldn't say its massively pigmented, but its definitely build-able which is great for me as I wanted a subtle finish. It feels really moisturising on the lips and leaves a dewy finish.

The only downside is that the shade is really quite shimmery, which isn't something I particularly enjoy. When I swatched it I don't think I truly noticed the shimmery particles, but as the product is build-able its not hard to strike a good balance for my preferences.

Essentially - so far so good! Let me know if you've tried any of their other Lip Bullets, as this was the first shade I've tried. :)

Review | Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Roomiest Rose

26 Feb 2013

Holy grail lip product? I think I've found mine :) On a spur of the moment purchase last month, I decided to throw caution to the wind (and by that I mean my bank balance!) and buy into the Chubby Stick hype. After serious deliberation, with my hand ending up varying shades of pinky red I decided on shade 6 Roomiest Rose.

Its part of the 'intense' chubby stick range which promises a fuller coverage on the lips and a more moisturising finish. Roomiest Rose is such a pretty dusky rose and is really wearable for both day and night. The original Chubby Sticks give quite a sheer finish, but with the new intense range I find the colour pay-off really great and it lasts at least 3 hours without needing to re-apply (obviously if you aren't drinking/eating heavily anyway!).

(After attempting about 20 different close-ups of my lips, I started losing the will to live...)
With the pen style applicator, its so easy to apply and means you don't necessarily need a mirror when topping up throughout the day. Which for me, is such a plus as it feels like a much more casual lip to wear in the day. I think the colour is so versatile with different make-up looks and can really glam up an outfit. At £16 a pop it is a pretty extravagant purchase, but I do think the stick will last me absolutely ages and for the quality of product I think its definitely worth it. I already want the stick in different colours!

I've heard quite a lot about the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains being a really good dupe for the Chubby Sticks, and when looking at the packaging its hard to tell them apart! So, I'm definitely going to try one from this range next to compare, as they're a bit more purse friendly.

Have any of you tried the new intense range of Chubby Sticks? Do you think they're worth the money?
