Review | Essie "Cocktail Bling"

29 Jan 2013

About two weeks ago Boots sent me a £2 off voucher for any Essie nail polish, as it would be rude to not take up the offer I took one for the team and trotted off down to Boots voucher in hand.
I'm a saint, I know ;)

I ended up choosing Cocktail Bling, which on first glance at the bottle looked like a very light grey. I know this seems quite an odd choice of colour, but the unusual shade really drew me in. I also wanted to lighten up my polish collection as I've really gone all out on the dark wintery shades recently.

When applying, I used two coats of Cocktail Bling, one coat of my favourite Nails Inc. Top Coat and my Rapid Dry Spray. On the first coat I was a little concerned, as the consistency of the polish was really watery! Not what I expect from an Essie polish! However, by the second coat my nails looked smooth and opaque. I'm not entirely sure why the polish was watery to begin with, perhaps because I forgot to shake the bottle beforehand? Either way, on subsequent applications I haven't had any problems at all.

The longevity of this polish is amazing!! I can wear the polish for a week with only tiny chips on my index fingers appearing. I pretty much always get chips on my index fingers straight away though so I never really take that into consideration. The colour of the polish on the nails is much bluer than it looks in the bottle, so you end up with a very pale grey/blue which is really lovely. Quite wintery still but in a much lighter way, which I really enjoy.

I'm actually really glad I chose this polish, there's always so many on display at the Essie stand that I'm happy this one jumped out at me! What's your favourite Essie polish? :)

Review | Loreal Colour Riche Nail Polish in 505 Wild Purple

11 Jan 2013

The other day when shopping with the best friend I needed some new foundation (review to come soon!) and as there was a Buy One Get One Half Price offer on all Loreal products in Boots I felt I would have been silly to pass it up! Or that's the excuse I'm using anyway.

I settled on a new nail varnish, as I felt I hadn't bought one in a while, (again, thats the excuse I'm using!) and considering its still so wintery I wanted quite a dark deep shade. I ended up with the Colour Riche Nail Polish in 505 Wild Purple. I'm not really sure what's so 'wild' about the colour, but it is a really gorgeous deep purple.

The polish has a slight shimmer to it and actually looks slightly darker on the nails than it does in the bottle. When I applied the first coat I was slightly worried as the texture seemed almost watery and I was concerned that the colour wouldn't be very pigmented, but on the second coat it completely erased my fears and was a really nice deep purple.

When applying the polish I used the Elegant Touch Rapid Dry Spray and my usual Nails Inc.Kensington Caviar Top Coat. This was the first time I'd ever used the rapid dry spray and it really did help to speed up the process and give my nails a smooth shiny finish.

The actual lasting power of this nail polish is amazing! I've had the polish on for a week tomorrow and there's hardly any chipping at all! Definitely still wearable without feeling embarrassed of my nails! I'm not sure whether this is down to the fact that the nail polish is gel based or perhaps the rapid dry spray? Either way I'll let you know when I've established the answer :)

It really is such a lovely wintery colour and it goes on to the nail so easily. The brush seems to be the perfect size to fit your nail without overspilling everywhere. The bottle is slightly on the small side for my liking, but it does mean that it won't dry out before you use it all! So a silver lining there! Have any of you tried any Loreal nail polishes?

Just a little sidenote to add on to the end of this post, one of my very best friends Charlotte has just started her own blog! If you like crafts, music, acting, photography and a bit of life talk then you'll love Sweet Toothed Pretender and I'm not just saying this in a biased way, I genuinely really enjoyed her first post :) So take a look if you fancy :)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Review | Essie "Dive Bar"

7 Dec 2012

Surprisingly to some, this is actually my first ever Essie purchase! I was looking around Boots the other day for a new polish, and after hearing soo many reviews on Essie, I thought I may aswell give it a go! It is abit on the pricier side for a nail polish, which is probably whats stopped me from ever buying one before! But, now after using it for about two weeks I can completely understand the higher price tag!

I wasn't really looking for any particular colour, but as its nearly Christmas (YAY!) I was mostly being drawn to the darker colours! And then I noticed Dive Bar and the shimmeryness (thats definitely a word..!) sold me completely! Its actually described as being a mysterious black-blue with shimmer. But, I think it looks more green and purple when its on my nails! Although, in certain lights it can look very black! I think thats why I liked it so much though, as it constantly looks so interesting!

The actual texture of the polish was amazing! It went on so easily and smoothly! I put on two coats, and then a top coat of the Nails Inc. Kensington Caviar 45 Second Top Coat which I got in the November Glossybox. Both pair together really well and give my nails such a smooth shiny finish!

I've been able to go for about 5 days without any chips, which for me is astounding! I'm usually trying to hide my chipped and rubbish looking nails! So this has all been very exciting for me! :) Although this was a splurge I am really glad I went for it! And next time I buy nail polish I'll definitely be going back to the Essie stand :)

I'm off to see the Silver Linings Playbook with my mum tonight! I've heard such good things about it! Have any of you seen it yet? :)

Glossybox | November

19 Nov 2012

Well hello there!

Its that time of the month when I get all excited over a pretty little box! This is only my third Glossybox, but I'm really enjoying it so far! And I think this box has been my favourite :)

The theme of this box was 'Stocking Fillers', with Glossybox wanting to 'serve as an inspirational gift guide.' I can't say I'd buy any of these products as a christmas present, but I'm definitely excited to try them all out!
I got;

the Ayuuri Indian Rose Face Cream. I wasn't massively excited by this as I'm not a major fan of the smell of Rose, and I also have many face creams that I'm slowly working my way through! A plus point though is that this a full-size product, rather than a small sample! It retails at £4.95 and you can peruse it here.

I also got the Burberry Body Eau de Parfum. I was really excited to see this in the box! I really like getting perfume samples and when it comes in such cute packaging its even more exciting! Look how cute it is!!

It smells really gorgeous aswell, so I'm dead chuffed with this :) Considering the 85ml version is £75, it also feels like a real treat to try it out :) You can find it here.

The Alison Claire Natural Beauty brand was not one I was familiar with, but the Mango Body Butter I received seems really nice on first impression. It smells lovely and I really like the packaging, knowing how much product you have left is always really handy! The full size version is priced at £15, which seems pretty steep to me, but maybe it works wonders?! You can find it here.

I've been wanting a new top-coat for a while, as my current Rimmel polish doesn't seem to be saving my nails from chipping at all! So this Nails Inc. Kensington Caviar Top Coat polish couldn't have come at a better time! Saying that, it would've been more exciting to have gotten one of the other more exciting colours in the box! But, I'm still happy! :) You can find the full size version here for £12.

Lastly, I got the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, which at first I was a bit dubious of!

Its a 'unique rice-based powder that gently exfoliates skin, leaving it noticeably smoother & brighter.' This all sounded a bit odd to me, but my best friend who got this in her box aswell, assures me that it is really good! And really, at £38.50 for the full size product, I should hope so! I shall let you know what I think once I've given it a full test! I'm really not that keen on the smell though, and it does really remind me of talcolm powder...

Overall, I am quite pleased with all the products, and I'm really looking forward to testing them all out :)

Hope you're all well :)

Bye for now!
