Review | La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo

I feel a little silly reviewing this product now considering that the Effaclar Duo+ has now been released! But, as there are only a few differences between the Duo+ and the original Effaclar Duo I thought it was still relevant.

I've been using this product near enough every day for almost two months now and I love it. I've featured it both in my Love At First Use post and my January Favourites video, I love it that much! My skin has noticeably cleared up and is looking better than it has done for a long time now. I hardly ever get a blemish now, and when I do it goes much quicker than it used to. I feel like my skin looks much brighter and clearer now too!

Its a thin serum-like consistency that spreads really easily across the face and sinks in super quickly. I only use two small pea-sized pumps on each application so the tube has lasted me really well. Even with the fact that I use it morning and night! I do like the fact that the tube is small as its handy for travelling! But, I wish it was a pump applicator as I never feel like I can get all the product out and I hate to see wastage!

At £13.00 I think its really good value for money actually, as it'll last you so long! Boots always do really great offers too. It's definitely become a Holy Grail product for me, and I don't ever want to be parted from it!!

My Make-Up Brush Collection.

A few years ago, aside from the odd eyeshadow brush I didn't really have any makeup brushes at all. I would just use my fingers to apply my foundation and concealer. This was at a time when I didn't really understand what powder would be used for and had no interest in blush. Fast forward a few years and blush is one of my favourite makeup products! Its funny how much you can change in such a short space of time! Now, I have a nice little collection I thought I'd share with you my brushes in case you were looking at expanding your collection. Also, apologies that the brushes aren't clean in the pictures! I'm currently on my way to Southampton to stay with one of my best friends and I wanted to have this post scheduled before I left.

From looking at the pictures it may be apparent that I have a slight passion for Real Techniques. I'm not ashamed though because they really are amazing brushes! Brilliant quality for a great price too!

1. Real Techniques Powder Brush (£12.99)

This brush is amazing for bronzer, setting powder and even blush if you really wanted to! It's a really great size, and like all the Real Techniques brushes the synthetic bristles are so soft and fluffy. 

2. Louise Gray for Topshop Limited Edition Powder Brush 

The Louise Gray brushes all came in a Limited Edition set, which I won't lie I bought mainly for the pretty mint green handles! They have come in so useful though, and are super soft on the skin. I use this brush mainly for bronzer or setting powder. 

3. Real Techniques Buffing Brush (Part of the Core Collection £21.99)

The Buffing Brush is literally my favourite brush ever to put on foundation with. I wouldn't use anything else now! It literally buffs the foundation into the skin giving a really flawless base. 

4. Louise Gray for Topshop Limited Edition Blush Brush

This brush is really similar to the Louise Gray Powder Brush aside from being slightly smaller and having a more tapered shape. It works well with powder highlighter as you can be more defined in where you place the powder. 

5. Real Techniques Contour Brush (Part of the Core Collection £21.99)

This is a really great short tapered brush, that can be used for highlighting specific areas. I personally use it to blend in my under-eye concealer - not exactly its intended use but it works for me! 

6. Louise Gray for Topshop Limited Edition Pointed Foundation Brush

I actually don't like flat foundation brushes at all, but as this came within the Louise Gray set I thought I'd give it a try. Needless to say my opinion didn't change after using it, and although its a perfectly well made brush it just doesn't work for me at all. 

7. Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (£9.99)

This brush is loved by many many people, me included. Once again however I don't use it for its intended purpose! Although its firm and broad shape has been designed for cream or liquid foundation, I like to use it for cream blushes. The firm bristles pick up the cream product really well, and buff it really well into the skin giving a really natural finish. 

8. Real Techniques Stippling Brush (£11.99)

The Stippling Brush's effect provides a flawless base when using foundation. I also love using it for powder blush as it gives a really natural flush to your cheeks. The bristles are unbelievably soft too!

9. Real Techniques Pointed Foundation Brush (Part of the Core Collection £21.99)

Like the Louise Gray flat foundation brush , this also came in a set and is a brush that I just don't get on with. Its quite a bit smaller than the Louise Gray brush, so would probably be better for more detailed and precise work. 

10. Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush (Part of the Starter Set £21.99)

This is a really great tapered shadow brush that is really great for using across the lid. Its soft and fluffy making it really easy to blend with too. 

11. MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush (£20.00)

This is quite a dense brush, with a rounded tapered top. Its super soft and is a real multi-tasker! You can use it to apply the base shade, blend shades or take shadows through the crease. It may be a little pricier but for the quality it's definitely worth it. 

12. Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush (Part of the Starter Set £21.99)

This is the biggest eye brush in my collection, and a favourite because of it. It blends really well and covers the whole lid nicely. Obviously, going with the name it also blends really well through the crease too. 

13. MAC 217 Blending Brush (£18.00)

The 217 is my go-to blending brush without a doubt. I love how soft and fluffy the brush is, even though it is a densely packed. The tapered oval shape fits really nicely across the lid too. Again, a pricier option but worth it in my eyes. 

14. Real Techniques Brow Brush (Part of the Starter Set £21.99)

Obviously although this is a brow brush, I actually bought this with eyeliner in mind. I'd seen a similar Illamasqua angled brush that was perfect paired with their Eyeliner Cake which I'd bought in the New Years Sale. So I thought I'd try out the Real Techniques version first before I splashed out on the Illamasqua brush. As the bristles are so tightly packed it creates a really great line and as you can use it with such precision it's great for brows too. 

15. Louise Gray for Topshop Limited Edition Eyeshadow Brush 

This is almost a shorter version of the Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush, making it perfect for applying a wash of colour onto the lid. As its quite a dense brush it also works well going through the crease. 

16. Real Techniques Pixel Point Eyeliner Brush (Part of the Starter Set £21.99)

This is definitely a brush that I don't get much use out of. Its very thin, tightly packed and flexible making it really easy to create a thin line. I prefer to use eyeliner pens rather than using a brush to apply though. 

17. Louise Gray for Topshop Limited Edition Liner Brush

I actually really love this brush, and use it often when I'm using an eyeshadow as an eyeliner. It creates a really thin sharp line that is easy to apply. 

18. Real Techniques Accent Brush (Part of the Starter Set £21.99)

This is a tiny brush, that is great for detailed eyeshadow work or for highlighting the inner corner of your eyes. The bristles are very tightly packed, but it's still soft and fluffy on the skin. 

19. Real Techniques Detailer Brush (Part of the Core Collection £21.99)

This is really similar to the Accent Brush in that it can be used for detailed eyeshadow work or for highlighting the inner corner of your eyes. It is slightly larger than the Accent Brush however, making it easier for me to use for highlighting.

My 2013 Beauty Favourites.

This past year has been full of new and exciting products that I've tried and tested. Whittling down my favourites was a hard task, and even now I feel like I have wayy too many products in the picture above! But, I'm the sort of person who will always give a top 5 rather than just one favourite. I just can't do it, I have too much love to give! (DISCLAIMER: This is a long post, so grab a cuppa and get comfy!)

All of these products I use on a weekly, if not daily basis - as you can probably tell from my empty No.7 Hot Cloth Cleanser, which I've just figured out I bought way back in April! Definitely good value for money there. As I have so many products to talk about, I'm only going to write a mini-review, otherwise we'll be here till next year. So let's get cracking!

Blusher is one of my favourite beauty products, so choosing one was tricky! But the Sleek Rose Gold blush is just so beautiful, and gives a lovely healthy glow to the cheeks. Its so easy to blend and the slight shimmer makes it great for night time too. (Full review here). Second, is the best foundation I've found all year. A good base is paramount and the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation gives a flawless finish. It glides on so easily, and leaves me with a healthy glow all day. To apply my foundation, my favourite brush of 2013 is the Real Techniques Buffing Brush. I'm genuinely not sure how I applied foundation before this now! It blends out foundation really well, literally buffing it into the skin.

Fourth, is a nail polish! I change up my nail polish ALOT. Especially for the different seasons. However, Essie's Cocktail Bling is a shade I can wear all throughout the year when I'm looking for something slightly more neutral. The consistency is brilliant and I can go chip-free for at least 4-5 days! A winner in my eyes! (Full review here). Number 5 will come as no surprise to fellow beauty bloggers. The cult favourite Lasting Perfection Concealer from Collection has shunted all other concealers from my make-up bag. It has such high coverage, and keeps me concealed all day long. Literally love this. Sixth, the Bourjois Délice de Soleil Bronzing Powder has been a firm favourite with me. It gives a lovely sun-kissed sheer glow, and I love the packaging as I can use the big mirror when travelling.

Seventh, is the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Translucent. This is my second pan of the product as I love it so much. It sets my make-up so well, and leaves my face matte all day. Number 8, is an eyeshadow that I became obsessed with! The Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze is such a fuss-free option for those busy mornings! You don't even need a brush, perfect for travelling! (Full review here). Onto a lip product now, and my Clinique Chubby Stick in Roomiest Rose. I love how easy to apply the product is, and how well it lasts on your lips. Its a subtle colour that is buildable, so its perfect for day to night wear. (Full review here).

There's only one mascara in my life that does it for me at the moment, and that's the Maybelline Mega Plush Volum' Express. It lengthens my eyelashes and makes me feel 10 times more awake than I actually am! Its not flaky at all, and only needs a few coats! The Lush Lip Scrub in Mint Julips is the best thing that's happened to my lips all year. They feel so smooth and supple after using the scrub and it makes wearing lipsticks so much easier. Twelth is another lip product, this time Topshop's Rio Rio. I love the formula of this lipstick, as although its a matte finish it goes on so smoothly and sits really comfortably on the lips. Its a great statement red. Another brush at 13, is my MAC 217. This is my favourite brush to use for blending eyeshadow, as its so fluffy and soft.

Talking about eyeshadow, my favourite palette this year has been the Stila In The Light Palette. All the shades are so blendable and really highly pigmented. My favourite shade in the palette is definitely Kitten, and I've hit pan recently! Ahh! For eyeliner, I love any that makes cat flicks easier for me. So the Revlon ColourStay Liquid Eye Pen has been my saviour this year! It works like a felt tip pen, making it super easy to use! It also stays put all day long. Finally, my all time favourite highlighter is the MAC Mineralise Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle. I have tried other highlighters this year but I always go back to this. It gives such a beautiful subtle glow, and lasts for absolutely ages!

Aside from make-up, I've also been loving my No.7 Hot Cloth Cleanser. At only £10 this is such good value for money, and cleanses your face so well leaving you feeling clean and fresh. At 18, is the best nail polish remover. The Bourjois Dissolvant makes taking off nail polish a doddle, and is much less messy than the traditional methods! REN make the ultimate face mask to me. The Gycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask leaves my skin feeling renewed and super soft. I love using it whilst I'm having a bath; the ultimate pamper evening! Now onto the last product of my favourites (phew!), the L'Oréal Skin Perfection Micellar Solution. This is probably the best product that's happened to my skin this year. Before this I was just using face wipes to remove my make-up - sue me, I know! But now, my face feels thoroughly cleansed and clean and I definitely don't have as many breakouts as I used to!

FOTN: Dinner With Old Friends.

I've had these pictures sitting on my hardrive for about a month or more now, and FINALLY got around to writing up the blog post! Pro blogger, clearly. I decided to focus on my eyes and go for a slight smokey eye for this look, whilst leaving the rest of my face quite neutral. I was off to have dinner with my old girl friends from college, we don't often all meet up together so it was really nice to catch up on everyone's lives. We went to Chiquito's where I had the most amazing guacamole! I was seriously impressed. The service was appalling though, it took us about 2 hours just to get our mains! A few Mojito's to get us through the wait didn't go amiss though! ;)

September Favourites.

Starting with a cliché I know. But, how fast is this year going!?! I can't believe its already October! I have to say I am surprisingly really enjoying the slightly chilly weather now though. Jumpers are happily being used again and the excuse for copious amounts of tea is valid. Yay Autumn! So without further ado, here are the products I've most enjoyed using in September.

Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturiser:
If you read my Skincare Haul post (here) on Monday you'll know that I already love this! It makes my morning routine so quick without feeling like I've neglected my skin. A winner in my eyes, and the price is pocket friendly too. :)

Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Balm in Red Sunrise:
I absolutely love all of the Chubby Stick style dupes that have hit the beauty market, and the Bourjois collection is possibly becoming my favourite. I love this shade, and how moisturising it is on the lips. Its really comfortable to wear, and lasts a good few hours too. It leaves a really subtle stain on the lips as well, so you don't have that awkward half on/half off lipstick remains moment.

L'Oréal Skin Perfection Micellar Solution:
I won't rave about this too much as I wrote a lengthy post comparing Micellar Waters recently. You can have a look here, but suffice to say I seriously love using this! I already have two more bottles in my cupboard ready and waiting for when I run out!

Toni & Guy Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray:
I've always been a fan of sea salt sprays, but the Toni&Guy spray is a recent addition to my hair care. So far I'm totally loving it, it gives a really nice beachy wave without making my hair crispy. It also holds really well throughout the day which I love. The packaging is also really pretty as I have a limited edition version designed by Lulu Kennedy.

Nars Eyeshadow Duo in Isolde:
I've loved this duo since I reviewed it way back in April (here), and I'm still loving it now. The two shades are so beautiful, and as expected from Nars are seriously pigmented. Currently I love pairing the lighter shade (Frosted Ginger) with a deeper brown (Sandstone from the Stila In the Light palette looks lovely) for an everyday look.

Revlon Colourstay Liquid Eye Pen:
This eyeliner hasn't been out of my make-up bag once this month. I love the felt-tip pen style applicator. Its so easy to use, and glides on really well. It has some serious staying power as well. Its really easy to create different looks too, either a thin subtle line or a large dramatic flick.

Soap & Glory Whipped Clean Shower Butter:
Soap & Glory are always a favourite in my bathroom cabinet, and this addition is no exception. This is meant to almost be a moisturiser and shower gel in one. The consistency is really creamy, and as much as I feel ridiculous saying it, it does feel 'luxurious' on your skin. It smells gorgeous, as all Soap and Glory products do and leaves my skin feeling really smooth.

My Travel Make-Up, Skincare and Hair Essentials.

If you follow me on Instagram you might have noticed my increasing excitement at my imminent holiday to New York City this Thursday! Me and my boyfriend are going on our first proper holiday together and I'm literally bubbling over with excitement. :) So in wake of this I thought I'd share with you my essential beauty bits that I'm taking along with me.

Firstly;

April Favourites

HOW IS IT MAY?! This year is going so super duper fast, and already I'm a little late on my April Favourites! I don't actually do a favourites post very often, but this month I've been really loving these products so I thought they deserved a whole post dedicated to them. Bet they feel special!

Recently I've really been trying to take good care of my skin, and the Elemis Exfoliating Face Wash coupled with my No.7 Hot Cloth Cleanser (reviewed in my last post HERE) have seriously been making a difference. My skin feels so much clearer now and much smoother! Definitely gonna repurchase both products - that is if my cleanser ever runs out, it seems to go on forever!

Both the foundation and mascara were purchases based on the recommendations of Essie Button and Tanya Burr and if you're reading this then I'm sure you know who they are already. I was on the lookout for a new foundation, and although it was a struggle to actually find the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in stock, I'm so glad I tracked it down! Its got such good coverage, stays put all day and blends really nicely. I really enjoy the healthy glow it gives my skin. I did actually buy the matching concealer as well, but I'm still a bit iffy on whether I actually like it. When it comes to the Maybelline The Falsies Mascara, I sooo wish I'd bought it sooner! I love it! My lashes look so volumised and I don't end up with black smudges under my eyes! Definitely one to repurchase :)

The Revlon ColourStay Liquid Eye Pen is a relatively recent addition to my make-up bag, but I am seriously loving it. It makes eyeliner so quick and easy and literally never smudges! Its my go-to eyeliner everyday and can create so many different effects. Definitely one for the handbag!

I reviewed the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Cream Gel Eyeshadow pots back in the beginning of April (see HERE) and I liked them then. But now, I bloody love them. They make getting ready in the morning, that bit quicker and simpler and yet you still look like you spent time blending out eyeshadows! My favourite is still On and On Bronze, but I am warming more and more to Pink Gold.

Finally, onto brushes. I've had both the Real Techniques Buffing Brush and the MAC 217 for a while but this month I've just been really enjoying using them. The Buffing brush seems to work particularly well with my Bourjois Foundation and just blends it so easily and smoothly. Likewise, my 217 brush makes blending so easy and gives such a nice effect. Both brushes area really soft and fluffy, and actually dry really well after washing!

Tag | What's In My Bag?

Well hello there!

I've seen this tag on so many other blogs and I always find it weirdly interesting, so thought I'd jump on the bandwagon too! :)

I quite literally use this bag every single day, its my favourite bag purely because its so damn big! I always seem to carry around a silly amount of things with me and then complain that my bag is too heavy. I never learn, clearly! Its from Topshop, and is actually quite a vibrant mint green (my favourite colour in the whole wide world, ever.) though it doesn't really look it in the picture! I got it way back in April of this year and I think it was about £35! Pretty standard for Topshop really!

So inside I have;

My Cath Kidston purse that my boyfriend bought me! The last two purses that I've had have both been stolen! I have the worst luck ever! :( After the last stealing, I refused to spend anymore money on nice pretty purses, so this present was a lovely surprise :)
My keys, customary clubcard and a Lego Harry Potter keyring that my best friend bought me years ago! :)
And, my oyster card holder, which is actually a 'phonetic tube map' that I got from Camden Market a few years ago;

I then have the boring customary things; Primark Comb, Compact Brush from Boots, Umbrella (that I acquired from work...and never really gave back)

Various pens (including my favourite Hard Rock Cafe one!), ibruprofen (because a woman is always prepared!), a hair band and my bag is always full of kirby grips.

I also carry, a Charlie Deoderant in Spirit, Carex Aloe Vera hand sanitiser, Boots Essential Tinted Lip Salve (which I actually really don't like, but hey!) and a Topshop Lip Balm (which they don't seem to make anymore, which is a real bummer as mines nearly finished! :(!). Sorry for how grubby the Topshop lip balm looks, but I defy anyone to carry around Topshop products a lot and maintain the pretty pristine white packaging!

Make-up wise, I really don't carry alot! I'm not a massive one for touching up on the go, unless I'm going out out, or somewhere special and thats when I'll bring a proper make-up bag with me. If not, this is all I carry; my Benefit Erase Paste in No.2 (which I can't live without!), Jemma Kidd I-Glamour Define Eyeliner in 01 Black (which I actually got free with ELLE magazine, and is really good for touch-ups), a sample of Lady Gaga's Fame Perfume (which I got in the September Glossy Box) and the much talked about Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick in 107 which I was using that day.

I also carry a super lovely compact mirror that my best friend bought me about 5 years ago, so I don't think its too worse for wear considering! :)

I always always carry around my ipod nano (which they don't make anymore :(!) and my Urban Ears Headphones. They don't make this colour anymore, but they are literally the best headphones ever! I love them!

Lastly, (I realise this has been really long, so I do apologise!) I always have a book on the go, and my bag is so big it fits them in nicely :) At the moment I'm reading Miranda Hart's auto-biography Is It Just Me? which I am lovinggg! :)

Review | No.7 Ultimate Body & Face Brush

Well hello there!

Just a quick one today, as I've been baking all day (blog to follow!), taking pictures of products (again blogs to follow!) and I'm about to leave to meet my best friend to go see Warhorse at the New London Theatre! Very exciting!! :)

I wanted to tell you about a brush I bought recently though, the Ultimate Body & Face Brush from No.7.

I've been wanting to expand my make-up brush collection for a while, but with a lacking of funds at the moment I've had to look at the more 'affordable' brushes. I was dithering over buying this for a while as I'd seen mixed reviews of No.7 brushes on blogs, but I decided to take the plunge! Purely as the other day when I bought the Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 107 it was 'buy one get one half-price' over all beauty products! And, who am I to pas up a bargain!? :)

And after all that, I'm really glad I bought it! Its super soft, and is made with natural hairs which is always a plus! It really helps to buff in my foundation, blush and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish.

Overall, I'm a very happy bunny! And thought I would share it with you, :) If you are on the lookout for some more brushes and aren't flush with cash at the moment (and lets face it, who is at this time of year?!) I'd definitely recommend this :)
